​My AmeriCorps experience involved teaching neighbors, youth, and volunteers how to grow and prepare vegetables, as a way of addressing food access and health disparities in Lansing’s Eastside neighborhood. I did this through leading volunteer groups, organizing food and gardening related workshops, and promoting organizational programs and services through print materials, social media, and peer-to-peer interaction. These opportunities working with motivated teams and individuals have been some of the most meaningful in my work with food.
